LA Marathon, Heal the Bay, & Moo Moo TODAY!!
admin | March 21, 2010 | 7:00 am

Hi all,

Perfect weather for the LA Marathon runners today!

They’ll be finishing the race at the SANTA MONICA PIER (some I’m sure have already finished!) all day long. There’ll be festivities there at the Pier ALL DAY LONG, mostly on the North side…bands, food, all sorts of fun, etc.

Well, MOO MOO MUSICA has partnered with HEAL THE BAY and they are in turn partnered with the LA MARATHON so….we’ll be at the SM Pier as well (SOUTH SIDE – Where it will be a bit quieter) all afternoon till about 6 pm.

If you enjoy the beach and crowds please join us at our tents for YOGA classes, beach clean-up (and prizes!). We’re encouraging people to bring their stashed ONE-TIME-USE PLASTIC BAGS for beach clean-ups and we’ll use them in out future clean-ups. Prizes will be given for the most amount of bags brought in. We’ll be continuing this for several months so you can bring the bags into Moo Moo classes at the Electric Lodge or UCLA Family Commons during class times…please! OR join us for one of our next HEAL THE BEACH Clean-ups IN APRIL and MAY!

A warning about PARKING today…this is first year the LA Marathon has arranged this sort of event and they expect Huge crowds. Walk, Bike or Stroll in if possible!

A very BIG …

THANK YOU TO SM COOP, ONE LIFE MARKET, FU-YOGA and SANTA MONICA YOGA for their generous donations of time and prizes for today’s event.

Cheers to all, JulieAnne Searles, MFT

Haiti, 1/18 class, Pennies for Peace, SM classes, Birthday Parties
admin | January 17, 2010 | 2:12 pm
Happy MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY!

1. CLASS ON MONDAY, 1/18
Yes… there will definitely be class on Monday, January 18th @ 9:30am.

2. HAITI RELIEF Many ways to help..
We would like to help Haiti by donating Moo Moo Musica T-shirts for sale during the next week of class. The money we receive will be donated to ARTISTS FOR PEACE and JUSTICE. (www.artistsforpeaceandjustice.org) 100% of donations given to this organization actually reaches those in need. On the board are artists such as Oliver Stone, Charlize Theron, and Diane Lane.

There are many other organizations doing excellent work; Doctors Without Borders, Operation USA (www.opusa.org), Partners in Health (www.pih.org) are some examples. You can deliver gently used shoes to Sport Chalet (or bring them to class and we’ll take them for you) and “SOLES 4 SOULS” will deliver them to Haiti next month.  Sport Chalet will take donations until Jan. 31st.

3. PENNIES FOR PEACE (Greg Mortenson, Three Cups of Tea and Stones Into Schools)
We are, of course, still collecting pennies…(over $650 worth so far!) for schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most of the schools are for girls as the Taliban do not allow them to be educated.
SEE GREG MORTENSON ON PBS with Bill Moyers to understand what this incredible organization is doing. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/01152010/watch2.html You can also hear Greg speak on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, 7:00-8:15pm at Loyola Marymount.  It’s FREE, however, you need to make a reservation. (lmu.edu then go to the Community Section)
Thank you so much to all of you who have brought in pennies and dollars, and/or bought our donated juices and slippers.  It really does add up! 1 penny buys a pencil, 1 dollar buys an entire month of aducation for a child. An amazingly simple way to help our little sisters in these two countries.

4.  NEW CLASSES at UCLA Family Commons in Santa Monica!
Moo Moo Musica is honored to have been invited to this beautiful new center in Santa Monica on 2nd and Wilshire (right across from First Presbyterian Preschool).  We will be starting the first week of February and will post the completed schedule on our website very soon.

5.  New BIRTHDAY PARTY COORDINATOR!

Kathryn Farren, who co-teaches our John Muir Elementary music program,  has happily taken on the role of Birthday Party Coordinator.  She can help with all aspects of planning from finding spaces (not always easy on the Westside) to helping with which activites/songs would be most fun and memorable for your little ones special day! Welcome Kathryn!!

Happy 2010,
JulieAnne & The Moo Moo Musica Team

MOO MOO Musica, and some of our Venice friends, Carmen w/ VENICE del PLAY and Coach Sydney w/ LA Surf And Swim are sponsoring this Family Night Kick-Off Event for this weekends Environmental Festival at the Electric Lodge.

We’re showing “Flipper” at 6:00pm and before that we’ll be having fun with a couple of the tunes from Moo Moo Musica’s upcoming CD and then Tom Freund with HUG TREES will play a mini-concert for everyone. There’ll be a bouncer, sparkle temporary tattoos and yummy Hot Cocoa from Whole Foods and delicious food from the Green Truck (the cocoa and food cost a little something). We were planning to have it outside (“Sustainable Drive-In”) but it looks like it might be cold so we’ll go upstairs to the theater inside. Hope you can join us for Flipper and all the rest!

Namaste,

Happy Halloween!!
admin | October 31, 2009 | 12:37 pm
Moo Moo Musica wishes everyone a very safe, fun Halloween!

*Halloween Carnival!
The Electric Lodge in Venice (include link to E. Lodge here) is hosting a Halloween Carnival on Saturday, October 31 from 2 -5 pm.  There will be games ( my son, Jasper, will be helping with those!), lots of food, videos, fun with costumes,  etc.  Should be a good time … We hope to see there!

*Super Saturday classes (9:45 am)
We have just a few Saturday classes left  (10/31, 11/7, 11/14) before the Holiday schedule kicks in.  Starting in December we hope to have one Saturday morning class each month with LIVE MUSIC!  Very exciting! We’ll let you know as it all unfolds!

*Let’s All Stay Healthy!
Just a reminder to all during these especially challenging (health-wise) times…
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD TO CLASS IF THEY HAVE A RUNNY NOSE (OR OTHER OBVIOUS HEALTH ISSUE)  Sometimes a child that seems “unusually quiet or tired” may be struggling with a health issue.

Our generous policy of “come to any class, whenever it feels right for you and your child” was to ENCOURAGE ADULT NURTURERS TO NOT TREAT THEMSELVES OR THEIR CHILDREN LIKE OBJECTS and come to class when they were extremely tired or sick. to As a mother and a psychotherapist, it seemed absolutely natural and necessary (!) to offer a more nurturer-and-child-friendly policy than what was currently available when we started almost 8 years ago.

Thank you for having respect and compassion for yourselves, these gorgeous children and  our wonderful community and LET’S ALL STAY HEALTHY!

Namaste, (the Highest in me bows to the Highest in you)

JulieAnne Searles and the Moo Moo Musica Team
